Medical Alerts Hungary October 06, 2010 06:40 GMT Toxic sludge escapes broken dam in Veszprem, emergency declared A broken dam in northwestern Hungary has released toxic sludge. The red mud, a byproduct of aluminum processing, has affected people in at least seven villages in Veszprem country. Authorities there and in two other counties (Győr-Moson-Sopron and Vas) declared a state of emergency.
